Commission Process
From inquiry to finished light
Each project is reviewed for material, dimensions, quantity and destination before quotation.
The specific stone approved for the order becomes the production material reference.
Structure, metal, electrical requirements and drawings are confirmed for the approved project.
Completion evidence is shared before the remaining balance and shipment.

Before You Commission
Clarity before production begins
Material approval, pricing, technical confirmation and responsibility should be clear before a made-to-order project begins.
Pricing & quotation
Can the dimensions or material be adjusted for my project?
Yes, many OYLIN designs can be reviewed for project-specific dimensions, material selection, finish and proportion. Feasibility depends on the design, material, structure and intended use, so changes are confirmed before quotation and production.
Are natural stone fixtures intended as main lighting, task lighting or ambient lighting?
Most sculptural natural-stone fixtures are best considered part of a layered lighting scheme rather than assumed to be the only light source in a room. Their role can be ambient, decorative or locally functional depending on the form, source, optics, mounting height and surrounding lighting plan.
Can OYLIN work from architectural drawings or elevations?
Yes. Plans, elevations, dimensions, reflected ceiling plans and reference imagery can be used during project review. The required level of detail depends on the product and project stage, and OYLIN may request additional dimensions or installation information before final engineering.
Can a made-to-order order be cancelled or returned?
Made-to-order work is not returnable for change of mind once production has begun. Before irreversible material, engineering or production costs are incurred, a cancellation may be reviewed with actual non-recoverable costs deducted. Once confirmed materials are purchased or formal production begins, the production deposit is non-refundable, subject to applicable statutory rights.
How should natural stone and metal finishes be maintained?
Care depends on the specific stone and finish. In general, use a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleaning method, avoid harsh acids or aggressive chemicals, and do not treat natural stone as a uniform industrial surface. Product-specific care guidance should take priority where supplied.
How should I choose colour temperature, light quality and output?
The correct specification depends on the space and intended use. OYLIN commonly works with warm light where it suits the design, but colour temperature, source type, output, dimming and other performance criteria should be confirmed for the specific product and project. We do not treat one lumen, CRI or wattage value as universal across different fixtures.
Can specifications or materials be changed after approval?
Tell us as early as possible. Changes may be feasible before production, but they can affect material cost, engineering work and schedule. If approved work or materials must be revised, OYLIN will issue the updated cost and timing for written approval before proceeding.
Can suspension length, mounting or installation details be customized?
Often, yes. Suspension length, canopy, mounting details and other installation-related elements can be reviewed for the project. Final feasibility depends on the fixture, ceiling condition, structure, regional electrical requirements and the selected components.
What should I do if the shipment arrives damaged?
Photograph the packaging and affected item immediately and note visible damage on the carrier's delivery record where possible. Keep the product, crate, cartons, internal packing, labels and documents while the claim is reviewed, and contact OYLIN promptly with photographs, video and delivery information.
What does the 50% deposit secure, and when is the balance paid?
The 50% deposit confirms the approved scope and allows OYLIN to commit material procurement, engineering and production capacity. The remaining 50% is due after final QC evidence is shared and before dispatch, unless a different milestone is stated in the quotation.
What happens during final quality control?
Before dispatch, OYLIN reviews the completed piece against the approved project information and shares final photographs or video where applicable. A dimensional check is included, and lighting projects can also include visual evidence of illumination. Any project-specific inspection requirement should be agreed in advance.
Are freight, duties and taxes included in the product quotation?
Unless the quotation states otherwise, product pricing excludes international freight, duties and taxes. Shipping is quoted after destination, quantity, packing and trade terms are confirmed. You may appoint your own forwarder or ask OYLIN to arrange a shipping option.
Are IES files available?
IES availability is confirmed by project and product. It should not be assumed for every decorative or natural-stone fixture. When photometric data is required, include that requirement early so OYLIN can confirm whether an appropriate file is available for the proposed configuration.
Does OYLIN ship internationally?
Yes. OYLIN serves international residential, hospitality and design projects. Shipping method, packing, trade terms and freight cost are confirmed after the destination, quantity, dimensions and project requirements are known.
What happens if there is a manufacturing defect or the wrong item is supplied?
If a confirmed manufacturing defect, non-conforming item or wrong item is attributable to OYLIN, we will review the evidence and provide an appropriate remedy such as repair, replacement, replenishment or another agreed resolution. Transit claims are handled separately according to the shipping arrangement.
Can OYLIN develop a completely new design?
Yes. OYLIN can develop a new design from a project brief, sketch, drawing or reference. The design-development scope, revision allowance, fee and timing are confirmed before work begins; manufacturing pricing follows once the design direction and technical scope are sufficiently defined.
Can I use my own freight forwarder or carrier?
Yes. If you appoint your own carrier, OYLIN can prepare the agreed packing, handover information and shipment evidence and assist with claim documentation if needed. Transit responsibility then follows the agreed customer and carrier arrangement.
How are natural stone pieces packed for shipping?
Packing is planned around the product, stone, dimensions, quantity and transport method. Larger or fragile pieces may require reinforced export packing or crating. The exact packing approach is confirmed as part of the shipment plan rather than treated as one standard carton format.
Is expedited or priority production available?
Priority scheduling may be available when workshop capacity and the project scope allow it. Any surcharge, revised production target and conditions are confirmed in writing before the accelerated schedule is accepted. It should not be assumed available for every project.
How long does production usually take?
Lighting and large furniture typically require approximately 8–9 weeks after deposit, material approval and final specification confirmation. Trays and smaller decorative objects typically require approximately 6–7 weeks. Project-specific exceptions are confirmed in the quotation.
When does production officially begin?
Production starts only after the required deposit has been received and the final production specification and material approval are complete. Until those points are confirmed, lead time should not be treated as having started.
What information should I provide for a quotation?
Share the product or design reference, intended use, approximate dimensions, quantity, preferred material and finish, installation country, delivery destination, and any drawings or reference images available. An early-stage brief is enough to begin; details can be refined during review.
Can electrical specifications be adapted for my country or region?
Yes, where technically appropriate. OYLIN confirms the installation country and reviews voltage, socket or driver, plug where applicable, dimming requirements and other regional electrical details before production. Local installation and code compliance should be confirmed by the qualified professional responsible for the project.
Can the light source or driver be replaced if it fails?
Replaceability depends on the product. Where a fixture uses a replaceable lamp, the socket and regional specification are confirmed before production. Integrated LED and driver configurations are reviewed by project so service access, compatible components and maintenance expectations can be understood before approval.
Can I review the stone before production?
Yes, where applicable. OYLIN can provide photographs or video of the proposed stone before production. Physical samples are available for selected materials and projects, subject to current availability and the scale of the commission.
How do stone thickness, colour and veining affect the light?
Natural stone does not transmit light uniformly. Thickness, density, colour, mineral structure and veining can change brightness, colour perception and shadow pattern. For illuminated stone, the final effect is reviewed as part of the product and material specification rather than treated as a fixed output from the material name alone.
Will the stone look exactly like the website image?
No two natural stone pieces are identical. Website imagery shows the material character and design direction; colour, veining, mineral structure, inclusions, clouding and translucency can vary. The stone approved for your project becomes the production reference.
Can I order natural stone samples before commissioning a piece?
Yes. OYLIN offers stone sample options for material review. A sample helps compare colour, surface character, mineral movement and scale, but it cannot guarantee that a future slab or finished piece will be visually identical.
Which technical files can OYLIN provide for design projects?
For confirmed projects, available files may include CAD or 3DM models, DWG drawings, PDF structural drawings, JPG renderings or other project documents depending on the design and stage. The final delivery set is confirmed for the specific project.
Can OYLIN support multi-piece, hospitality or trade projects?
Yes. OYLIN can review single statement pieces, grouped installations, residential projects and hospitality or boutique commercial interiors. Quantity, repetition, matching stone, finish consistency, technical coordination and delivery sequencing should be discussed during quotation.
Where is OYLIN based and where are pieces produced?
OYLIN is an independent atelier based in Zhongshan, China, working with natural-stone lighting, sculptural objects and made-to-order furniture for architects and interior designers internationally. Production is coordinated through specialist material and fabrication partners appropriate to the project.
Why are fixed prices not shown?
OYLIN works on a made-to-order basis. Final pricing depends on the selected material, usable yield, dimensions, metalwork, engineering, quantity, finish, fabrication complexity and delivery requirements. We confirm the project scope and current material before issuing a project-specific quotation.
